McKamey Animal Center helps empty shelters

The Bissell Pet Foundation is doing its part to bring homeless pets from kennels to couches by sponsoring a reduced adoption fee of $50 or less from October 1-8. The longest-running national ‘Empty the Shelters’ event will be held at more than 280 shelters in 42 states, including McKamey Animal Center.

McKamey Animal Center will participate Oct. 1-8, offering free adoptions for adult and senior dogs and cats. McKamey Animal Center currently has over 120 animals seeking dedicated and loving homes. Interested adopters do not need an appointment to visit the MAC Adoptions Center or to adopt. All adoptions will be on a first come, first served basis. All interested adopters can find more details online at

Bissell’s Empty the Shelter adoption events have helped adopt hundreds of animals from the McKamey Animal Center into the local Chattanooga community over the past year.

“We are so grateful for all of the support the Bissell Pet Foundation has given MAC this year,” said Director of Advancement Lauren Mann, “It has been a challenging year, and as we continue to see with more and more animals coming through our doors in need of critical and lifesaving help, having a partner like Bissell has been so wonderful and vital to our adoptions.”

“It’s been a tough year for animal shelters across our country,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of the Bissell Pet Foundation. “The devastating rise in owner abandonment has left thousands of socialized, home-trained, and leash-trained animals desperate to find homes. Our Empty the Shelters drop will support the adoption of thousands of pets across the country. , helping shelters during this critical time. Opening your home to a shelter animal saves a life and creates space to give another animal a chance.”

The Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters event is the largest funded adoption event in the country. In an effort to encourage more families to choose adoption, this rescue effort has helped nearly 118,000 pets find loving homes since 2016. Empty the Shelters is the Bissell Pet Foundation’s largest program, partnering with a total of 541 animal welfare organizations in 47 states and Canada to lower adoption costs.

Adoption is a lifetime commitment. The Bissell Pet Foundation and the McKamey Animal Center urge families to do their research on the animal they wish to adopt, as well as the terms of adoption. For more information on adopting or donating to “Empty the Shelters”, visit as well as
