Veterinarian Van Otten retires; sells Los Lunas Veterinary Hospital

LOS LUNAS – Local veterinarian Dr. Randy Van Otten, owner of Los Lunas Veterinary Hospital, is retiring and has sold his practice to Dr. Patrick Sanchez.

“Dear friends, customers and ‘patients,’ my time has finally come to follow in the footsteps of other retired vets,” Van Otten said. “For over 26 years, it has been an absolute pleasure serving the wonderful residents of Valencia County and their furry families.”

Van Otten started the practice nearly three decades ago and said it wouldn’t have been possible without the faith and trust of the community.

“I was blessed to raise a loving and supportive family, cultivate lifelong friendships, and form countless professional relationships, and for that I am forever grateful,” he said.

Beginning in April, Van Otten transferred ownership of the practice to Dr. Patrick Sanchez. Van Otten said some of the community may already know Sanchez, as he served that same community during his young career.

“I’m thrilled to be able to share what we’ve built over these years and see it continue to be a staple of this community,” Van Otten said. “You will be delighted to know that he will continue to serve you with the same care and attention that you are all accustomed to, with our same caring and friendly staff.”

Van Otten said he feels lucky to have a young local doctor who truly understands and appreciates the small town atmosphere. He is confident that these clients will come to know and love Sanchez and his family, and will quickly realize how knowledgeable and compassionate he is to the profession.

“As for me, I will continue to call Los Lunas home, and I may even continue to work with some of you, as I will continue to work with Dr. Sanchez from time to time,” he said. “Thank you for entrusting me with the care of your pets and allowing me to serve you at Los Lunas Animal Hospital.”

Dr. Patrick Sanchez was born and raised in Albuquerque. He earned his BSc and MSc from New Mexico State University.

In 2014, he received his doctorate in veterinary medicine from Colorado State University. Sanchez has been practicing veterinary medicine in New Mexico and the Albuquerque area since 2014.

Sanchez is happy to be back at Los Lunas and looks forward to serving his customers and patients in the growing communities of Valencia County.
