PAWmicon with Helen Woodward Animal Center is this weekend –

RANCHO SANTA FE (KUSI) – For the eighth consecutive year, Helen Woodward Animal Center will celebrate the spectacular feats of superhero adopters by paying tribute to Comic-Con International with a pop culture-themed Dog Cosplay event titled PAWmicon.

Helen Woodward Animal Center is hosting a PAWmicon-themed weekend featuring pop culture-named orphan pets, comic book-themed giveaways, photo ops, family-themed crafts for kids comic book for young participants, Rush Coffee Cart and Kona Ice for sweets and treats.

The highly anticipated PAWSplay Costume Contest on Saturday, July 24 between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., located in the Center’s Human Education Pavilion.

The entry fee is $10 per puppy and all proceeds support the pets and programs of the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
The cosplayers will serve as judges and will be available for post-contest photo ops.

A cartoon-themed kids’ craft will be available for younger attendees and a coffee cart and Kona Ice will also be on hand for candies and treats.

This year, Comic-Con remains COVID-safe in July. Instead of being live downtown, the world-famous event is offering an online virtual experience, titled [email protected]

For the first time ever, Comic-con International is including the Rescue Center in its programming with a panel hosted by the Helen Woodward Animal Center titled Animals in Graphic Novels and Games. The virtual roundtable, which will premiere on July 25 at 11:00 a.m., will feature Chris Ryall and Keith Arem and will be moderated by Robert Rice of Omniscape.
