Judge issues one-year sentence to former animal hospital office manager who embezzled more than $200,000

MADISON, Wis. (WKBT) – A former office manager at the Bloomer County Veterinary Hospital will spend a year in jail for wire fraud and filing a false tax return.

Joleen Minnich, 41, of Chippewa Falls, used her position as office manager to embezzle about $224,596 from the company’s bank account by creating 204 fraudulent checks for herself, according to an investigation conducted between 2014 and 2017. Minnich pleaded guilty to his charges. April 25. Minnich also admitted during her plea hearing that she deliberately failed to remit payroll taxes to the IRS to hide her embezzlement.

The county animal hospital owner and longtime friend of Minnich’s family called his embezzlement “a special kind of betrayal” according to the judge.

U.S. District Judge William Conley sentenced her to 12 months and a day in jail on Wednesday.
