The Georgian Triangle Humane Society has unveiled plans for the new home of its new Regional Center for Companion Animals and People at 135 Sandford Fleming Dr.
The planned 19,200 square foot facility will be located on five acres.
The facility will include outdoor pet memorial gardens, dog enrichment parks, walking trails, an outdoor education center and a fully accredited pet hospital. The facility is also intended to become a community center for animal lovers.
Partners for Thursday’s event included Tatham Engineering, PetSmart Charities Canada, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach, Rotary Club of South Georgian Bay and Rotary Club of Meaford.
The facility is expected to cost around $14 million and is expected to open in 2025. A fundraising campaign is underway to raise the necessary funds.
Last year alone, the GTHS took in 1,400 animals and facilitated about 1,200 adoptions at its current facility, officials said. Tenth Line’s current animal shelter and hospital is a 3,500 square foot facility.
The Georgian Triangle Humane Society serves Collingwood, Clearview Township, Wasaga Beach, Meaford and the town of the Blue Mountains.
