Dog rescue: Valley Animal Center rescues a sweet pit bull abandoned by his 3rd family; how to adopt

FRESNO, Calif. — A California shelter is taking steps to find a sweet rescue dog his fourth and eternal home.

8-year-old chocolate American pit bull Ava has been in and out of shelters since 2016 and is now back in shelter care.

Valley Animal Center Animal Care Adoption Supervisor Ruben Cantu and his wife made the trip to Las Vegas, where Ava was last abandoned to pick her up from Animal Control Services.

This is the third time she has been abandoned by her adoptive family.

Cantu says he adopted Ava and she does well with kids, other dogs and is a real love beast.

Fresno’s no-kill shelter is already getting calls about Ava.

As for the ideal adoptive family…

“She’s just an old lady wanting out. I can’t believe this is the third state she’s been in where people have let her down,” Cantu says.

Due to an early case of mange and burns from being abandoned in the desert heat, his fur will remain damaged.

Ava has lumps that weren’t treated, so she’ll need at least one surgery before she’s ready for adoption again.

You can donate to Ava’s cause or learn about adoption by visiting the Valley Animal Center website.
