CHARLOTTE, NC (News Release) – Fostering is an important step in an animal’s journey to their forever home and allows them to thrive in a family environment as well as practice bonding bond with their caregivers. For animals that have been waiting longer for adoption, foster families can help reassure those interested in adopting that these animals are a good fit for their home.
CMPD Animal Care & Control offers several types of foster programs and provides guidance to participating foster volunteers. The Daycation and Staycation options allow people to bring a dog home for one to five days. These short visits provide the shelter with more detailed information about the dogs, such as their interests, behaviors, likes and dislikes. Knowing these characteristics helps CMPD Animal Care & Control prepare long-term foster families on how best to help their pet.
Those who foster for 50% of the year are entitled to 5 benefits for up to 5 personal animals, including:
- wellness exam
- Basic vaccines (Distemper, Parvo, Distemper, Rabies, Bordetella)
- Heartworm test
- Heartworm Prevention
- Flea Prevention
