34 adult dogs, 12 puppies seized, placed at Horry County Animal Care Center
HORRY COUNTY, SC (WWAY) – An animal investigation by the Horry County Police Department on Friday led to the seizure of 46 dogs and their transfer to the animal care center.
Police say they received information from another law enforcement agency indicating several dogs in poor condition and without adequate resources (housing, food, water) on property off the 905 freeway near Conway.
A search warrant was served at the scene and dozens of animals were removed from the property.
At a post-seizure hearing on Monday, the owner turned over the 46 animals to the HCPD and ACC.
The owner received citations for violating the county’s animal care and treatment ordinance.
Due to the special needs and sensitivities of adult dogs, staff make every effort to transfer most to rescue partners who can provide care, treatment and/or training.
The Animal Care Center says the puppies may be available for adoption in the coming days after veterinary care.
